Above Ground Trampoline Hoist Case Study

To date Dolphin Mobility has supplied The Short Breaks Team at Essex County Council with several pool lifts and Handimove mobile hoists for use with trampolines. This on-going relationship ensures that children and young adults with various levels of disability across Essex can continue with their daily swimming, rebound therapy and exercise programmes as a matter of course.

As part of its ongoing support for people in Essex with disabilities, The Short Breaks team recently supplied a Victor above ground trampoline hoist to Brighter Opportunities Through Supported Play (BOSP). BOSP offers regular clubs in evenings, weekends and school holidays, providing fun and exciting activities with social opportunities for children and young people with disabilities, aged four upwards. BOSP aims to develop children and young people’s independence, self-esteem and social skills in a supportive environment.

“During the school holidays we use The Pioneer SEN School in Basildon which is perfect for our requirements and many of the children feel relaxed as they are familiar with the surrounding, because they attend the school during term time. With the holiday season approaching we were desperate to find a solution that would enable us to easily and safely transfer people on and off the trampoline, as our existing hoist was unable to reach the level of the trampoline. This resulted in staff having to manually transfer people on and off and therefore I contacted the Short Breaks Team to see if they could help” explained Claire Setterfield, BOSP Services Manager.

Within a matter of days, Lisa Jones, a member of the Short Breaks team had sourced a Handi-Move Victor hoist that had recently been supplied by Dolphin Mobility. “We have equipment all over the county and if an item is not being used we immediately look for an alternative location, which is exactly what we did with Claire. However the hoist required a new battery, a service and delivery to Basildon. We have been working with Dolphin Mobility for 2 and a half years and have been consistent suppliers throughout, they have never let us down with delivery, servicing and support – once again they pulled out all the stops to help us and more importantly the children at BOSP. I would not hesitate in recommending them to other schemes in the UK” explained Lisa.

The Handi-Move Victor hoist is ideal for use with trampolines and plays a vital role in rebound therapy. With the capacity to lift a user of up to 225kg (35 stone) from ground level onto a 1.1 metre high trampoline, such as the one being used by BOSP, the need for manual handling is eliminated; unlike many hoists, the manoeuvrability of the Victor hoist ensures staff can lower the user directly onto the bed of the trampoline. “The hoist is just fantastic, and has made a huge difference to everyone involved with BOSP. Furthermore, the hoist has not just been used with the trampoline, we have also used it to help children on and off our specialist bikes. I cannot thank the Short Breaks Team and Dolphin Mobility enough!” continued Claire.

Handimove Trampoline Hoist

The Short Breaks for Disabled Children programme (formerly Aiming High for Disabled Children) is a national transformation programme for disabled children’s services in England. Its vision is that all families with disabled children and young people will have the support they need to live ‘ordinary lives’ as a matter of course.

“Working with organisations such as Short Breaks is extremely rewarding for us. The support Lisa and her team offer to the young people of Essex is fantastic and I am delighted that our latest delivery has proved so popular with BOSP and the children in Basildon” commented Craig Dunnage, Director, Dolphin Mobility.
